What it does

AG2 is an open-source Python framework for building AI agents that use models and tools, cooperate with other agents and pause for human input. The current protocol-driven framework uses the ag2 package and an Agent abstraction, with multi-agent networks coordinating communication. Developers configure the model provider and expose Python functions as tools for a task.

The project supports experimentation and production development where agent behavior needs to be composed in code. AG2 1.0 changes the agent model, orchestration and imports from earlier releases: existing applications using import autogen or ConversableAgent belong to the separately maintained AG2 Classic project. Check the documentation matching the installed distribution before following an example or upgrading. The Apache 2.0 framework is free; model services and execution infrastructure have separate costs.
