- Tool type
- Agentic AI platform and SDK
- Made for
- Developers and enterprise AI teams
- Runs on
- Akka cloud, your VPC, or Kubernetes
- Service binaries run in the Akka cloud, a customer VPC, or Kubernetes; local sandboxes for development. Developer install is through AI coding harnesses.
What it does
Akka is a platform for building and running agentic AI systems as clustered services. Developers write domain logic, agents, workflows, and state in the Akka SDK, and the Akka runtime handles clustering, durable state, streaming, scheduling, and endpoints. The output is a service binary whose replicas form a cluster, exposed over HTTP, gRPC, or MCP endpoints.
Teams use Akka to build multi-step agent workflows that resume after failures, to expose services to AI clients as tools, and to apply governance controls such as policies, guardrails, evaluations, and human approval across agentic systems. The platform is organized into four solutions: Akka SDK, Akka Specify, Akka Verify, and Akka Optimize.
Akka suits engineering teams building production agentic systems that need resilience, multi-region operation, and auditable controls. Developers can install it from an AI coding harness such as Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Codex CLI, Cursor, or VS Code with Copilot, and run local sandboxes for development. Production options include the Akka cloud, a customer VPC, or Kubernetes. Pricing for production deployment should be confirmed with Akka.
What it can do
- Build agents and multi-step workflows with durable state that survive crashes and restarts
- Store state as event-sourced or key value entities, and read across them with views
- Expose services over HTTP, gRPC, or MCP endpoints, with MCP tools callable by LLM clients
- Schedule timed actions that run at least once, and consume event streams with consumers
- Apply policies, guardrails, sanitizers, evaluations, and human-in-the-loop escalations to agentic systems
- Produce tamper-evident audit records mapped against a corpus of 241 regulations and frameworks
Works with
- Message brokers (topic consumption and event production)
- Claude Code
- Gemini CLI
- Codex CLI
- Cursor
- VS Code with Copilot
- OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Splunk export
Before you choose
- Production deployment tiers (Dedicated, Day 2 Ops, Business Continuity, Sovereign Cloud) are described, but their pricing should be confirmed with Akka.
- Compliance and sovereignty claims (EU AI Act, Singapore IMDA, data residency) are vendor statements; verify fit for your regulatory needs.
- Confirm supported programming languages and model providers for your team before adopting.

Get started
Paste the install instruction into a supported AI coding harness, or follow the Getting Started guide.
- Install the Akka CLI or paste "install Akka from akka.ai" into a supported AI coding harness.
- Follow the Getting Started guide to build a first service, such as a spec-first hello agent.
- Choose a deployment target: local sandbox for development, or the Akka cloud, your VPC, or Kubernetes for production.
Plans and prices
Local sandboxes for development and testing are free. Production deployment pricing is arranged with Akka; confirm cost for your chosen deployment option.
