What it does

Anara takes in research papers, PDFs, notes, slides and recordings, and searches over 300 million academic papers and databases such as PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov. It returns answers with citations that link to the exact passage they came from, tables that extract the same fields from every paper in a folder with each cell cited, and drafts with citations exportable to Word, LaTeX or BibTeX.

Researchers use Anara to search the literature, ask questions across a whole library, extract structured data into tables and write with citations. Its main differences are passage-level citations that can be checked in one click and a persistent library that remembers uploaded files, so questions can be asked of earlier material at any time. Developers can also call a paper search and resolve API with a key from the console.

Anara suits academic researchers, clinicians, regulatory specialists and consultants doing literature reviews. It runs on the web, Mac, iPhone and iPad, and inside Microsoft Word, with an API for developers. A Free plan is available with limited usage and uploads, while paid plans are billed per seat and usage is metered, with credits available to extend it.

What it can do

  • Search academic literature across over 300 million papers and filter by year, field, author, journal, citations and open access
  • Upload papers, notes, slides and recordings, and ask questions across a single file, a folder or the whole library with passage-level citations
  • Extract the same fields from every paper in a folder into a table with each cell cited
  • Draft writing with citations suggested from your library and export to Word, LaTeX or BibTeX
  • Search and resolve papers by DOI, arXiv or PubMed id through the Anara API

Works with

  • Zotero
  • Mendeley
  • Benchling
  • Synapse
  • Google Drive
  • OneDrive
  • SharePoint
  • Dropbox
  • Slack
  • Microsoft Teams

Before you choose

  • Usage is metered per seat; included usage resets on a cycle and stronger models consume more, so heavy use may need credits or an upgrade.
  • Upload size and page limits differ by plan, and full-text passages are unavailable for paywalled papers or papers whose licence forbids commercial reuse.
  • Credits bought on the web expire 12 months after purchase, while credit packs bought in the iOS app do not expire.
