What it does

Anton is an open-source (MIT) agent you give a task in plain language. You supply the request and any connected data sources, such as files, databases, or apps like Gmail, and it works out the steps itself. It can write and run code in an isolated scratchpad, search and fetch web content, and produce outputs such as dashboards, reports, email cleanups, or automated workflows.

What sets it apart is that it does not rely on a fixed library of prebuilt connectors. When a capability is missing, it can write the integration code itself. Credentials are kept in a vault so secrets are not exposed to the model, and it keeps workspace memory of rules and lessons that it reuses in later sessions. It runs as the default agent inside MindsHub Cowork, or standalone from a terminal.

Anton suits people who want a task completed rather than code written, and who are comfortable running a command-line tool. Install it with the official shell or PowerShell script, or use the Cowork app on web, macOS, or Windows. Model and provider costs are billed separately from Anton itself. Web fetch returns plain text and may struggle with paywalled or JavaScript-heavy pages, and fetched content should be treated as untrusted input.

What it can do

  • Send and draft emails, and clear or classify an inbox
  • Manage calendars, including summarizing the day and creating or blocking meetings
  • Pull data from multiple sources, compute results, and produce reports or dashboards
  • Scrape and synthesize web research into a reference document
  • Prototype data pipelines by connecting sources, transforming data, and loading it
  • Write and set up its own integrations, such as a WhatsApp or Telegram channel

Before you choose

  • Model and API usage is billed by the chosen provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, MindsHub API key, or another); Anton itself is not separately priced.
  • Web fetch has a 30-second timeout, strips HTML to plain text, and may return little from paywalled or JavaScript-heavy sites; treat fetched content as untrusted.
  • Analytics collects anonymous usage events by default and can be disabled with ANTON_ANALYTICS_ENABLED=false.

Get started

Running anton prompts for terms and a model provider.

  1. Run the installer for your platform (install.sh on macOS/Linux, install.ps1 on Windows), then add ~/.local/bin to PATH if needed.
  2. Run anton, accept the terms, and choose an LLM provider; the quickstart recommends Minds via mdb.ai.
  3. Optionally run anton setup-search to configure Exa or Brave for web search when using a generic OpenAI-compatible endpoint.
