What it does

Flow Studio takes uploaded video footage, actor selections from a single frame, CG character assignments, and text or image prompts for 3D asset generation. It outputs character animation data (motion capture in camera space), clean plates and camera tracks, rigged or generated 3D assets, and exports to Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine, USD, Alpha Mask PNG, and Character Pass formats depending on plan.

The workflow is project-based: upload footage, scan a frame to find actors, assign characters, then start processing. Projects can use Static Camera AI MoCap for locked, studio-style footage or Dynamic Camera AI MoCap for handheld, moving, or outdoor shots. AI Motion Capture with MetaHuman support is available on Standard and above, and Character Pass export is included on Pro.

It suits independent creators and VFX teams producing short-form or shot-based work who want faster animation and asset prototyping. Access is through a subscription, with a free plan that includes watermarked exports capped at 720p and 100MB uploads. Dynamic camera mocap shows more sliding and lower 3D pose accuracy, and motion stays in camera space unless camera motion is tracked separately.

Example workflows

Animate a character from a handheld video
Input: a handheld video of a performer. Steps: upload footage, scan a frame for actors, assign a CG character, choose Dynamic Camera AI MoCap, start processing, and set up export. Output: character animation data in camera space; tracked camera motion is needed for world-space accuracy.
Prepare a locked-off studio shot for compositing
Input: fixed-camera studio footage. Steps: upload footage, choose Static Camera AI MoCap, assign characters, process, and export Character Pass or Alpha Mask PNG where the plan allows. Output: stable character animation and transparent-background elements for a compositor.

  • AI MoCap output is in camera space; moving-camera footage needs separate camera tracking for world-space animation.
  • Free tier exports are watermarked and capped at 720p, with 1GB storage and 100MB uploads.
