What it does

Browserless takes in automation code, MCP tool calls, or plain HTTP requests describing a URL or a multi-step browser task, and returns rendered page content, screenshots, PDFs, scraped data, crawl results, or the outcome of a browser session. Browser work runs on Browserless-managed Chrome in the cloud rather than on the user's machine.

People use it in three main ways: connecting existing Puppeteer or Playwright scripts to a cloud browser by swapping a launch call for a connect call, calling REST endpoints for screenshots, PDFs, and scrapes without a browser library, or adding the hosted MCP server to Claude, Cursor, VS Code, or Windsurf so an agent can drive a logged-in browser session. Stealth, CAPTCHA solving, and residential proxies are part of the offering, and sessions can persist cookies across calls.

It suits developers and teams building AI agents or scraping pipelines that need JavaScript rendering and bot-resistant browsing without running browser infrastructure. Free use requires a sign-up with a 1k-unit monthly allowance and two concurrent browsers. Paid tiers are unit-based and enterprise deployments can be self-hosted. Limits include session time caps on lower tiers and unit charges for proxies and CAPTCHA solves.

What it can do

  • Run Puppeteer or Playwright scripts against managed cloud Chrome over WebSocket by changing the connection call.
  • Expose browser tools (agent, smart scraping, custom code, export, search, map, Lighthouse, crawl) through a hosted MCP server.
  • Scrape pages with an escalating strategy from HTTP fetch to proxy to headless Chrome to CAPTCHA solving.
  • Generate screenshots, PDFs, and page exports via REST endpoints.
  • Keep logins and cookies persistent across multiple tool calls within a session.
  • Stream and debug live sessions through a dashboard and debugger.

Works with

  • Puppeteer
  • Playwright
  • Claude Desktop
  • Claude Code
  • Cursor
  • VS Code
  • Windsurf

Before you choose

  • Each browser connection consumes units; sessions longer than 30 seconds use an extra unit per 30 seconds, and reconnects count as new connections.
  • Residential proxies and CAPTCHA solves are charged in units, so bot-resistant scraping costs more than plain page loads.
  • Maximum session time is capped on lower tiers (2 min on Free, 15 min on Prototyping).
