What it does

Bugbot reads the diff of a pull request and posts comments that explain suspected bugs, security issues and code quality problems, often with a suggested fix. It runs on each PR update or when someone comments cursor review or bugbot run. It also publishes a CI status (a check on GitHub) for each run and can generate PR summaries with an optional risk score.

Teams connect repositories from the Cursor dashboard and manage which repos are reviewed under Automations. Review behaviour can be tuned per repository, per user, or in a .cursor/config/bugbot.yaml file read from the PR's base branch, so a PR cannot change how it is reviewed. Comments carry Fix in Cursor or Fix in Web links, and optional Autofix can push changes to a new or existing branch. Bugbot also reads existing PR comments to avoid repeating earlier suggestions.

It suits engineering teams on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps or Origin who want an automated first-pass reviewer. Billing is usage-based, so a prepaid credit or paid Cursor plan is needed. Limits: oversized PRs are skipped with a request to split them, generated files marked in .gitattributes are left out, bot-authored PRs are capped, and the review API is Enterprise-only.

What it can do

  • Reviews pull request diffs and comments on bugs, security issues and code quality with fix suggestions
  • Runs automatically on PR updates or on demand via cursor review / bugbot run comments
  • Publishes a CI check or build status per review for use with branch protection
  • Per-repo, per-user and YAML config for triggers, review effort, PR summaries and autofix
  • Optional Autofix that proposes changes on a new or existing branch
  • Enterprise API to queue reviews (including dry runs) and pull per-review analytics

Works with

  • GitHub
  • GitHub Enterprise Server
  • GitLab
  • GitLab Self-Hosted
  • Bitbucket
  • Bitbucket Data Center
  • Azure DevOps Services
  • Origin

Example workflows

Automatic review on every push
Input: a GitHub repository connected through the dashboard. Steps: connect the repo, confirm Bugbot is on under Automations, open a PR and push commits. Output: inline comments with explanations and fix links, plus a Cursor Bugbot check on the PR.
Enterprise dry-run analysis
Input: a PR URL and an admin-scoped API key. Steps: POST the URL to /bugbot/review with dryRun true, then call the bugbot-reviews analytics endpoint. Output: stored findings and review cost data with nothing posted to the PR.

Before you choose

  • Findings default to a neutral check conclusion, so requiring the check alone does not block merges on findings.
  • Effort levels apply only to usage-based Bugbot plans, and Autofix consumes Cloud Agent credits.
  • Review API and MCP support are limited to Enterprise and to Team and Enterprise plans respectively.
