What it does

Claude in Chrome works with the pages you are already signed in to. From a browser side panel, it can read information, move across tabs, click controls, type, and fill forms. This is useful for tasks that normally require repeated navigation and copying between websites, including tools that do not expose a convenient API.

You might ask it to gather metrics from a dashboard, research a set of suppliers, organize files in a web app, or prepare CRM updates for review. It can also join a longer Claude workflow, where browser research becomes a report or spreadsheet, or work with Claude Code while a developer tests a site. Site permissions and organization controls determine where it may act.

The extension requires a paid Claude plan. It is distinct from Claude’s built-in browser: this option uses your Chrome environment and existing website sessions. Browser automation can misunderstand a page or encounter malicious instructions, so choose appropriate sites, review consequential actions, and verify the result. A task completed in Chrome is not automatically safe just because the page was accessible.

What it can do

  • Read pages and combine information across tabs
  • Navigate websites and complete form-based tasks
  • Gather information from signed-in web apps
  • Connect browser work to Claude deliverables
  • Use site-level permissions and organization controls

Works with

  • Google Chrome
  • Claude
  • Claude Code
  • Web applications through the browser

Example workflows

Dashboard to report
Allow access to a reporting site, collect the relevant metrics, and review a summary before using it elsewhere.
Research a shortlist
Open the candidate sites, compare specified criteria, and pass the reviewed findings into a document or presentation.

Before you choose

  • The extension uses Chrome sessions; it is different from Claude’s separate built-in browser.
  • Avoid sensitive workflows and review consequential actions; prompt injection defenses are not foolproof.
