What it does

Composio takes in a user's connected app accounts (for example Gmail, Slack, Notion, GitHub, HubSpot) and the actions an AI assistant or agent wants to perform in them. It produces tool calls that execute those actions, returns results to the AI, and keeps a record of every call. Users can also run tasks in a private sandbox and receive only the final answer.

People use Composio inside an AI they already use, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or any MCP-compatible client, by installing it or pasting an MCP URL. Developers building their own agents can use the SDK to add integrations without building each one. Its distinct features are per-action permissions, a firewall that checks tool requests and results against policies, shared credentials that the AI never sees, and an activity log of every action.

Composio suits people connecting existing AI assistants and developers building agents that act across business applications. A dashboard account is the starting point, followed by authorizing the applications and actions the agent needs. Teams should review permissions and credential handling for each connection, and test actions that change business data before broader use. Tool calls, trigger events and certain third-party services have separate usage meters; enterprise governance features depend on the chosen agreement.

What it can do

  • Connect AI assistants to 1,500+ apps through a single MCP URL or plugin
  • Manage per-user OAuth connections, token storage and refresh for connected accounts
  • Set per-action permissions and approval requirements for what an AI can do in each app
  • Run code and multi-step tasks in a sandbox and return only the results
  • Provide tools for web search, enrichment and transcription through Instant Tools billed per use
  • Log every tool call with user, tool and outcome, with CSV export on enterprise

Works with

  • Gmail
  • Google Calendar
  • Slack
  • Notion
  • GitHub
  • Google Drive
  • HubSpot
  • Salesforce
  • Instagram

Example workflows

Send a report from a chosen Gmail account
Illustrative example. Input: a request to send a report from the work Gmail and a copy from the personal account. Steps: the agent checks active connections, opens an authorization page for any missing account, then sends each email. Output: the report sent from both accounts, with each action logged.
Qualify an inbound demo request
Illustrative example. Input: a new Gmail message asking for a sales demo. Steps: the trigger starts the agent, which searches HubSpot for the contact, enriches the company via search, creates the contact, and posts a summary to a Slack channel. Output: a new HubSpot contact and a Slack message to the sales team.

Before you choose

  • Paid third-party tools (search, enrichment, transcription) bill per call separately from plan allowances.
  • Composio-managed apps have lower free allowances and are not recommended for scaling; bring your own OAuth app for production use.
  • Security certifications (SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001) are stated by the vendor; buyers should review the Trust Center directly.
