What it does
Consensus takes a research question, keywords, a paper title, author or DOI, and searches a database of over 220 million peer-reviewed papers. It returns a ranked list of the top 20 relevant papers plus AI-written summaries that carry citations back to the underlying studies. It can also produce comparisons, extracted details such as methods and sample size, tables, and agreement or disagreement across the literature. If it cannot find enough relevant evidence, it says so rather than filling gaps with outside information.
People use it to find studies quickly, check what the evidence says on a topic, and run larger literature reviews. Distinct features include the Consensus Meter, which visualizes agreement on yes-or-no questions, Deep Review, which synthesizes 50-100 papers, a Research Agent for multi-step questions, a Citation Graph, My Library collections, and chat across the full text of papers or uploaded documents. Retracted papers are excluded from AI analyses.
It suits researchers, clinicians, students and professionals who want grounded answers rather than general chatbot output. The free tier has monthly limits on Pro messages, Deep reviews and Study Snapshots; paid plans raise those limits. Answers depend on what is in its database, and full-text depth is available only when full text exists, so verify important claims against the cited papers.
