What it does

Cortex AgentiX is a security automation product from Palo Alto Networks for building, deploying, and governing AI agents that handle security operations work. Teams supply their own organizational context, policies, and security data, and agents reason through and execute multi-step workflows such as investigating cases, summarizing raw logs, normalizing data, and analyzing threats. Outputs are actions taken and results inside the Cortex environment, with visible reasoning at each step.

Teams can prompt an agent in real time or trigger one autonomously, and agents can be placed inside playbooks using natural-language prompts. A library of prebuilt agents, including the Case Investigation Agent and Automation Engineer Agent, is available alongside custom builds. Administrators decide when agents may act alone and when human approval is required for high-impact actions, and agents operate under the same roles and permissions as analysts.

AgentiX is aimed at SecOps teams already working in the Cortex platform, including users of Cortex XSIAM, Cortex XDR, and Cortex Cloud. Interested teams can request a demo through the vendor site or take the product tour. Its value depends on existing Cortex deployments and integrations, and administrators need to define autonomy boundaries before agents are given broader authority.

What it can do

  • Build and run custom AI agents grounded in organizational context and security policies
  • Run prebuilt specialized agents such as the Case Investigation Agent and Automation Engineer Agent
  • Insert AI prompts into playbooks using natural language to automate tasks like log summarization and threat analysis
  • Set human-in-the-loop approval requirements for high-impact actions
  • Assign tools from external MCP servers to agents and use the Cortex MCP Server to query Cortex data from an LLM

Works with

  • Over 1,100 prebuilt integrations
  • Model Context Protocol (MCP) support
  • Cortex XSIAM
  • Cortex XDR
  • Cortex Cloud

Before you choose

  • Agents act under existing roles and permissions, so access design should be reviewed before deployment.
  • Autonomy limits and approval requirements should be configured by administrators to maintain control.
  • Value depends on existing Cortex deployments and integrations.
