What it does

Cursor takes in natural-language instructions, plans, attached docs and your codebase, and produces code changes, implementation plans, pull-request reviews and short walkthroughs of finished work. You choose a model per task, including Grok, OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and Cursor's own Composer models, or leave it on Auto.

People use it in a desktop editor, a command-line agent, Slack and GitHub. Typical jobs include building a feature from a written plan, adding an algorithm and fixing a parser bug from the terminal, or asking the Slack bot to make a change and open a PR. Cloud agents run on their own machines, in parallel, building, testing and demoing work for you to review. A separate Grok Bot signs in to your tools to do tasks.

It suits software developers and engineering teams, from individuals to large organisations. You need an account to start, and the desktop app is offered for macOS. A free tier has limited agent and chat requests; paid plans share a weekly-refreshing usage pool, and third-party models are billed separately by usage at API list price. Generated code still needs human review before it ships.

What it can do

  • Agent that plans and builds features across a codebase from natural-language requests
  • Cloud agents that run in parallel and autonomously build, test and demo work
  • Command-line agent started with a one-line install command
  • Slack app that takes requests and returns pull requests
  • Pull-request reviews in GitHub and AI code reviews via Bugbot
  • Model choice across OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Grok and Cursor models, or Auto

Works with

  • Slack
  • GitHub
  • Vercel
  • Snowflake

Example workflows

Build a feature from a plan
Input: a written spec such as a feature PRD and your repository. Steps: ask the agent to plan, review the task list, then run the build with your chosen model. Output: code changes and a task checklist for you to review.
Delegate a small change from Slack
Input: a Slack message asking @cursor to make a change. Steps: the agent works the request in the background and replies in the thread. Output: a pull request you can open in GitHub, Cursor or the web.

Before you choose

  • Usage is a pooled allowance that refreshes weekly; beyond it you buy top-offs or wait.
  • Third-party models are not included in plan prices and are billed separately at API list price; Plus includes Grok models only.
  • The pricing page also lists Grok and X social features, so check which plan features apply to Cursor use.
