What it does
DataLab is a cloud-hosted data notebook from DataCamp. Users work in workbooks that hold notebooks and data files, chat with an AI assistant about their data, write or edit R, Python, or SQL code, and create charts without writing code. Results can be turned into shareable reports.
DataLab suits exploring datasets, running analyses, and sharing work with colleagues. Each workbook runs in a managed cloud environment with common data science packages available, and external database connections can be set up once and reused across workbooks. Collaborators can be invited by email or link to edit or comment in real time.
DataLab is aimed at individual learners and analysts, and at teams that want a shared sandbox for data work. A free Starter plan includes up to three workbooks with a DataCamp account. Paid plans add more workbooks, more compute, and group features, while session timeouts and AI prompt limits vary by plan.
What it can do
- Chat with data using an AI assistant that generates, edits, and explains code
- Write and run R, Python, and SQL code in managed workbook notebooks
- Query external databases through SQL cells that return data frames
- Create charts from data frames without writing code using the chart cell
- Start from pre-written templates for common data science tasks
- Invite collaborators to edit or comment on workbooks in real time
Before you choose
- Sessions close after a period of inactivity and after a fixed maximum time, depending on plan; restarting a session resumes work.
- Workbook filesystem storage is capped at 5GB on Starter and 20GB on Premium.
- Starter allows up to 5 workbooks open at the same time across tabs; parallel code only uses multiple cores if it is parallelizable.
