- Desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux)
- Cloud agents need Devin Cloud; local agents work without it.
What it does
Devin Desktop is a code editor with a built-in IDE and an Agent Command Center for running coding agents. You describe what to build, and local agents (Devin Local) or cloud agents (Devin Cloud) write code, test it and report back. It reads project rules from .devin/ or legacy Windsurf locations, plus AGENTS.md files, and produces code changes you can inspect in the editor.
People use it to plan work, delegate tasks to several agents at once through Spaces and a Kanban view, then review the changes in the same window. The IDE includes syntax highlighting, autocomplete, debugging and Tab/Supercomplete predictions. It is the renamed Windsurf (from June 2, 2026), so existing settings, extensions and plans carry over. Agents can connect to tools such as Stripe, Vercel, Datadog and Atlassian through MCP and language servers, with a plugin marketplace.
It suits individual developers and engineering teams that want an editor plus agent management. A free plan exists; paid plans add larger quotas, and Devin Cloud access is listed on Pro. Local-only use works without Devin Cloud, which is a separate SKU. Usage is capped by daily and weekly allowances, with extra usage billed at API prices. Teams need a full seat to use the desktop app, and enterprise admins must update device-management allowlists for the renamed app.

- Agents on ACP with MCP servers and language servers
Works with
- Stripe
- Vercel
- Datadog
- Atlassian

Example workflows
- Delegate parallel tasks
- Input: a list of features or bugs. Steps: create Spaces, assign each to a local or cloud agent, track on the Kanban view. Output: agent-written changes ready for review.
- Review agent changes in the IDE
- Input: a finished agent task. Steps: open changed files such as train.py, trace and debug the edits, adjust with Tab completions. Output: reviewed code ready to ship.
Before you choose
- Usage is quota-limited; extra usage on paid plans is billed at API pricing.
- Devin Cloud is a separate SKU, and Cascade remains available only through July.
- The app is renamed Devin.app/Devin.exe, so endpoint-management allowlists need updating.
