DigitalOcean Managed Agents
Run and govern AI agents on DigitalOcean's managed cloud runtime
- Tool type
- Managed cloud runtime and tool-access platform for AI agents
- Made for
- Engineering teams and companies building agent products
- Runs on
- DigitalOcean cloud, managed sessions in Firecracker microVMs
- Sessions run in the cloud; the web console and doctl CLI are used to create and manage them.
What it does
DigitalOcean Managed Agents is a Public Preview platform for running AI agents in the cloud. It accepts agent sessions built with harnesses such as Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode, Hermes, LangGraph, or CrewAI, or your own agent packaged as an OCI container image. Each session runs in its own isolated Firecracker microVM and can be paused, resumed, checkpointed, and forked.
The platform has two components. Harness Runtime runs and persists agent sessions and supports scheduled and webhook triggers. Action Gateway gives agents governed access to more than 16,000 tools through a single managed MCP endpoint, brokering credentials at execution time and applying per-tool permissions with optional human approval.
It suits engineering teams who want agents to keep running in the cloud rather than on a laptop or self-managed server, and companies building agent-powered products for their own end users. Sessions are created through the web console or the doctl CLI. Costs are metered, and the product is in Public Preview.
What it can do
- Run agent sessions in isolated Firecracker microVMs with persistent state across devices and teammates
- Pause and resume sessions, checkpoint a session, and fork independent sessions from it
- Access 16,000+ tools through a single managed MCP endpoint with tool discovery
- Broker credentials at execution time so tokens never reach the model, prompt, or sandbox
- Apply centralized per-tool permissions with required human approval for sensitive operations
- Trigger runs on a schedule or by webhook, with structured event logs and token-usage observability
Works with
- Claude Code
- Codex CLI

- LangGraph
- CrewAI
- Hermes

Before you choose
- Public Preview: the page says Managed Agents is available to customers who opt in to preview terms; availability and pricing may change.
- Costs are metered: CPU billing follows per-second consumption and paused sessions stop CPU and memory charges, but tool calls and code execution are billed separately.
- Action Gateway is an MCP endpoint, so it can be added to any MCP-compatible application, not only Harness Runtime.
