What it does

Elai turns text scripts, blog post URLs, PPTX files, or written prompts into narrated videos presented by AI avatars. Creators can add interactivity such as quizzes, branching paths, buttons, and hotspots, upload their own voiceover in place of a script, and export finished videos in SCORM format for learning management systems.

People typically use Elai to convert existing slides or articles into video without filming. Notable capabilities include voice cloning in 28 languages, custom avatars built from studio or phone footage, one-click translation into more than 75 languages, and AI Storyboard, which drafts scripts from prompts, links, or documents. Elai is now part of Panopto, following Panopto's acquisition announced in October 2024.

Elai is aimed at learning and development teams, educators, and marketers producing training or explainer videos. It runs in a browser at app.elai.io, with a free plan limited to one user and one minute of rendered video, and paid Creator and Team plans billed by monthly video minutes. Every render consumes plan minutes, pay-as-you-go is not offered, and deleting a project does not restore minutes.

Input: a blog post URL. Steps: paste the link into the URL-to-Video generator, review the generated script and avatar layout, render. Output: a narrated video of the article, with minutes deducted on render.

PPTX training deck to avatar presentation

Input: a PPTX file with speaker notes. Steps: upload the PPTX, let the slide notes become avatar speech, add interactive quiz slides, render. Output: an interactive narrated presentation exportable as SCORM.
