Emergent Mind API
Search arXiv papers and open research problems through a JSON HTTP API.
- Tool type
- JSON HTTP API for paper and open-problem search
- Made for
- Developers and research-tool builders
- Runs on
- Called over HTTPS from your own code
- Base URL is https://api.emergentmind.com; the API is not an end-user web app.
What it does
The Emergent Mind API takes JSON request bodies and returns JSON responses. Its main endpoint searches arXiv papers from a natural-language query, with optional start and end dates and a result limit of up to 25. Each result includes enrichment such as categories, social signal counts, and citation counts. Related endpoints fetch a paper's linked related papers, open problems, and code, and fetch individual open problems by slug. Responses include a request_id for troubleshooting.
People use the API to add paper search and open-problem lookup to their own products, scripts, or research agents. The docs also describe an OpenAPI 3.1 spec for agent builders, and a finding submission endpoint that lets users share numerical evidence, counterexamples, or proofs on an open problem's page, with updates and deletion limited to findings submitted with their own key.
The API suits developers and researchers building research tools or agents. Every plan, including the free one, can use it, with monthly request allowances of 50 on Free, 2,500 on Pro, and 10,000 on Max. Authentication uses an API key from the dashboard, which must be kept secret. Citation counts are only set for some papers and read 0 otherwise, so check the citations_checked flag before relying on them.
What it can do
- Search arXiv papers with natural-language queries, date filters, and up to 25 results
- Return per-paper enrichment including categories, social signal counts, and citation counts
- Fetch a paper's related papers, open problems, and code
- Fetch individual open problems by slug
- Submit, update, and delete your own research findings on open problems
- Pace requests using per-response monthly quota headers
Before you choose
- Keep API keys secret and do not place them in client-side code or public repositories.
- Monthly request allowances reset at the start of each calendar month; requests beyond the limit return 429.
- The shared demo key has its own pooled allowance, so its quota headers do not reflect your plan; use a key of your own.
