What it does
fal is a developer platform for generative media. You send prompts, images, video or audio references to a hosted model endpoint through a REST API or client libraries (Python, JavaScript, cURL) and receive generated images, video, audio, speech or 3D assets. It also lets you deploy your own models as Python apps and rent dedicated GPUs for training.
Most people start by picking a model from the catalog of 1,000+ endpoints, getting an API key and calling it synchronously or through an async queue; some models also support streaming and real-time WebSocket connections. A Sandbox compares models side by side. Teams with custom models write a fal.App class, test it with fal run, publish it with fal deploy, and watch logs and request analytics in a dashboard. Dedicated GPU instances with SSH suit fine-tuning and training.
It suits developers and engineering teams building products on image, video, audio or 3D generation, plus enterprises needing private endpoints, SSO and SOC 2. You need an account and API key, and you are billed by usage rather than a flat plan. Output pricing varies by model and unit, so costs need checking per endpoint. Custom deployment requires writing Python code.
What it can do
- Call 1,000+ image, video, audio, speech and 3D models through one API
- Synchronous and async queue calls, with streaming and WebSocket support on many models
- Deploy custom Python model apps on autoscaling serverless GPUs
- Rent dedicated GPU instances with full SSH for training and fine-tuning
- Dashboard with real-time logs, request analytics, Prometheus metrics and log drains
Example workflows
- Generate a video from a still image
- Input: a source image and a text prompt. Steps: choose an image-to-video model, send the request through the queue API with your key, and poll or subscribe for status. Output: a generated video clip URL billed per second of output.
- Deploy a fine-tuned model
- Input: Python code and model weights. Steps: define a fal.App with setup() and an endpoint, run fal run to test on a cloud GPU, then fal deploy and set concurrency limits. Output: an authenticated autoscaling endpoint with logs.
Before you choose
- Pricing differs by model and unit (seconds, images, megapixels, characters, credits), so estimate costs per endpoint.
- Dedicated Compute is manually scaled and billed hourly, while Serverless scales automatically and bills per second of execution.

Get started
Account required; usage billed per output or hour
- Create an account at fal.ai and generate an API key
- Pick a model from the catalog or Sandbox and make a first call
- For custom models, install the CLI and run fal run then fal deploy
Plans and prices
Prices in USDModel API rates vary per endpoint and unit; see the pricing page rate table. GPU Compute is billed hourly; Serverless per second of execution. Free tier not confirmed.
