What it does

Flow is Google's AI filmmaking tool. You write text prompts and can upload images or videos, and it generates video clips, scenes and images using Google's generative models, including Veo, Gemini Omni Flash and Nano Banana. It can also edit uploaded or generated videos, extend clips, and upscale resolution. Outputs carry invisible SynthID watermarks, and a visible watermark can be added.

People use it to draft short cinematic clips and story sequences, choosing between faster and higher-quality model tiers and checking credit cost per generation before confirming. Generations appear as individual tiles that you can multi-select into Collections. A Flow Agent is available, and Flow TV shows sample clips with the prompts behind them. Each generation spends credits, so model choice directly affects how much you can make.

It suits creatives and filmmakers who want to prototype video ideas. Use requires being 18 or older, being in a supported region (VPNs do not work), and, for full access, a Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra subscription or a qualifying Workspace plan. A limited free allowance of 50 daily credits exists, but video generation may be unavailable at peak hours without a subscription. A Chromium-based desktop browser is recommended; other browsers and mobile are not fully optimized. Rate limits and content policies apply.

What it can do

  • Generate video clips from text prompts with Veo and Gemini Omni Flash models
  • Edit uploaded and generated videos
  • Extend clips and upscale to 1080p or 4K (4K for Ultra)
  • Generate images and use the Flow Agent
  • Organize generations into Collections and browse Flow TV for prompt examples

Example workflows

Prototype a short scene
Input: a text prompt describing a scene. Steps: pick a model tier in Settings and check credit cost, generate clips, then extend or edit the best one. Output: a short video clip ready for review.
Organize a set of takes
Input: several generations from different prompts. Steps: Shift+click or drag a box to select tiles, create a Collection, compare takes. Output: a grouped Collection of candidate clips.

Before you choose

  • Credits are deducted per generation and costs vary by model; failed or filtered generations are refunded within about an hour.
  • Rate limits apply, especially for zero-credit models, and VPNs or proxies can trigger blocks.
  • Visible watermarks are applied automatically in India, South Korea and Vietnam for users not on the Ultra 20x plan.
