What it does
Gemini Notebook takes in your own sources, including PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio files, Google Docs and Google Slides, and can also help you discover new ones. From those sources it produces chat answers with in-line citations, plus study guides, briefings, audio overviews, mind maps and similar formats. It supports 80+ languages. It was previously called NotebookLM and remains a standalone product.
People collect sources into a notebook, ask questions grounded in that material, and convert it into formats that are easier to review or share. What sets it apart is that answers come from the uploaded sources rather than general knowledge, and it will not answer when the information is not there. Notebooks can also be used inside the Gemini app, with syncing between the two. A secure cloud computer lets it write and run code for data analysis, rolling out to Ultra and some Workspace customers first, with Pro users to follow.
It suits students, researchers and teams working from a defined set of documents. You need a personal Google Account or a work or school account, and a school or work admin must enable access. Age verification may be required. Free use with a Gmail account is possible, while paid Google AI plans or Workspace and Cloud licenses raise limits. Usage limits are subject to change, and safety filters or vague questions can prevent answers.
