What it does

Google Workspace Studio takes a plain-language description of a task you want automated and has Gemini build a flow for it, a sequence of steps that can read and act on Workspace content. It can also be assembled from prebuilt steps. Flows produce actions such as summaries posted in Chat, labelled or starred Gmail messages, drafted follow-up emails, or files saved to Drive and logged in Sheets.

People use it for routine inbox and meeting chores: a daily summary of unread email, alerts about messages from key people, labelling emails that contain action items, or sending meeting summaries and action items afterwards. Flows can be changed and monitored from Workspace apps such as Gmail, Chat and Drive, and prebuilt connectors and custom extensions link other business apps. Google states it can only access data the initiating user is permitted to see, and does not override Workspace data loss prevention (DLP) controls.

It suits employees and teams in organisations that already run Google Workspace and want no-code automation without waiting on IT. Access requires a Workspace Business or Enterprise plan and a sign-in with a Workspace account; it is not offered as a standalone product. Limitations: DLP integration for third-party services is not planned in the near term, and it is distinct from Google Flow and Google AI Studio. Admins should vet third-party connections.

What it can do

  • Create automation flows from a plain-language description using Gemini
  • Assemble custom flows from prebuilt steps
  • Manage flows and track activity from Gmail, Chat and Drive
  • Summarize upcoming meetings in Chat and capture, translate and email meeting action items
  • Detect and label high-priority emails, and save Gmail attachments to Drive and log them in Sheets
  • Connect business apps through prebuilt connectors and custom extensions

Works with

  • Gmail
  • Google Chat
  • Google Drive
  • Google Sheets

Example workflows

Meeting follow-up
Inputs: a meeting's details, attendees and attachments. Steps: describe the automation in plain language, review the flow Gemini creates, and turn it on. Output: a meeting summary in Chat and a drafted email with translated action items.
Attachment filing
Inputs: incoming Gmail messages with attachments. Steps: choose a template or describe the task, point it at a Drive folder and a Sheet, and activate it. Output: attachments saved to Drive and each one recorded in Sheets.

Before you choose

  • Studio can only reach data the initiating user has permission to access, so flows inherit that user's access limits.
  • DLP integration for third-party services is not part of immediate plans; admins should weigh which outside services to connect.
  • It is a different product from Google Flow (AI filmmaking) and Google AI Studio (Gemini app prototyping).
