What it does
Helix is an AI agent orchestration platform for engineering teams and other organizations. It runs coding agents in isolated environments that include a desktop, terminal, filesystem, and browser. Teams can give an agent a specification, let it plan and implement work in a sandbox, then review its plan and pull request before merging. Operators can watch agent activity live and pair-program with an agent.
The platform also supports conversational agent apps and persistent, role-based workers. Helix is available as managed Helix Cloud, a Mac app, or self-hosted on Linux and Kubernetes; the documentation describes the Mac app as local on Apple Silicon. Supported coding agents include Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, Goose, and Zed Agent. Model access uses configured providers or local models. Helix is aimed particularly at engineering teams scaling the use of coding agents; the company’s enterprise contact page specifies teams with 20 or more developers. Cloud has a 72-hour trial requiring a credit card. The Mac option uses your own API keys, a Claude subscription, or local Ollama models, so external model costs may apply.
What it can do

- Runs spec-driven coding tasks through planning, implementation, and pull-request submission
- Supports live monitoring and human review of agent plans and changes
- Hosts conversational agent apps and persistent role-based workers
- Offers fleet-level visibility and shared spec-driven Kanban task management
Works with
- Claude Code
- OpenAI Codex
- Gemini CLI
- Qwen Code
- Goose
- Zed Agent
- Anthropic
- OpenAI
- Ollama
Before you choose
- The Cloud trial lasts 72 hours and requires a credit card.
- The Mac app relies on the user's API keys, Claude subscription, or local Ollama; any external model-provider charges are separate.
- Helix Cloud is priced per user, while enterprise Kubernetes deployment is quoted from a starting pilot price; confirm the applicable plan and costs for the intended setup.

- Choose managed Helix Cloud, the Mac app, or a Linux/Kubernetes deployment.
- Select and configure a supported coding agent and its model provider; Mac users can instead configure their own API key, use a Claude subscription, or run Ollama locally.
- Create a spec task, run the agent in its sandbox, and review its plan and pull request before merging.
