What it does
LibreChat is an open-source AI chat platform that puts conversations with many model providers into one customizable interface. It works with providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Azure, and AWS Bedrock, and includes agents with file handling and API actions, a code interpreter, artifacts for React, HTML, and Mermaid, search across messages and files, memory, and web search.
The project is a self-hosted web application. Teams install it with Docker, npm, or a Helm chart, create an account, add a model API key, and begin chatting. It is MIT licensed, supports Model Context Protocol connections and custom endpoints, and lets organizations deploy on their own infrastructure. A free public demo exists for evaluation only.
It suits developers, IT teams, and organizations that want one interface across providers, with SSO through OAuth, SAML, LDAP, and two-factor authentication. Users host it themselves and bring their own model API keys. It is not a native desktop app, so Windows and macOS users run it through Docker Desktop.
