What it does
Agent 365 is a control plane that IT and security teams use to observe, govern, and secure AI agents. It takes in agents built with Microsoft AI platforms, agents from ecosystem partners, and agents an organization registers itself, and produces a registry, activity maps, performance analytics, audit logs, and policy enforcement across identity, network access, and data.
Administrators typically use it through the Microsoft 365 admin center alongside Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Intune. Agents published through Microsoft 365 channels and registered with an Entra Agent ID appear in the inventory automatically; lifecycle rules can expire inactive agents, flag ownerless agents, or block risky ones. Its distinct feature is that the same admin tools used for employees also govern agents.
Agent 365 suits IT, security, and compliance leaders at larger organizations scaling agent use. It is licensed per user, and an Agent 365 license is recommended for everyone who interacts with, owns, manages, or sponsors managed agents. The $15.00 per user per month price is shown paid yearly with an annual commitment, and it is included in Microsoft 365 E7. Agents built outside Microsoft 365 channels need additional onboarding steps.
What it can do
- Unified agent registry covering Microsoft-built, partner, and self-registered agents
- Agent analytics tracking performance, quality, business impact, and ROI
- Rules-based lifecycle management such as expiring inactive agents and blocking risky agents
- Least-privilege integration management controlling which users, data, tools, or MCP servers agents can use
- Audit and logging of agent actions and interactions
- Data security and threat protection for agents through Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Defender
Works with
- Microsoft 365 admin center
- Microsoft Defender
- Microsoft Entra
- Microsoft Intune
- Microsoft Purview
Example workflows
- Onboarding a new agent
- Input: an agent built on a Microsoft AI platform and registered with an Entra Agent ID. Steps: the IT admin reviews it in the registry, applies a security policy template through the IT-controlled onboarding workflow, and sets least-privilege access to users, data, and tools. Output: an inventory entry with governance policies applied.
- Retiring inactive agents
- Input: a lifecycle rule for inactive or ownerless agents. Steps: the admin configures the rule in agent lifecycle management so it flags ownerless agents and expires inactive ones. Output: flagged or expired agents recorded in the registry and audit logs.
Before you choose
- Agents built outside Microsoft 365 channels and not registered with an Entra Agent ID require additional steps to appear in the inventory.
- Pricing is shown per user with an annual commitment; confirm the current rate and availability in your market with Microsoft sales before purchase.
- Agent 365 is also included in Microsoft 365 E7, so the standalone license may not be needed if you already buy E7.
