What it does

Mixedbread provides managed retrieval for agents working with documents, code and multimedia. You upload files or connect data sources, and the service parses, transcribes, chunks and indexes the material. Agents can use semantic search, exact or pattern matching, reranking and agentic search to find evidence with source-file and passage references.

The service exposes Python and TypeScript clients alongside command-line and MCP access. It is useful when an agent needs to answer from a private collection without a team assembling every retrieval component. Indexing, search, storage and optional Toast model inference are metered separately. Starter access includes a one-time credit allowance; continuing after that requires a paid plan. Test retrieval on representative questions and inspect the returned sources before relying on an answer.
