What it does
mcpd is a toolchain and runtime for configuring, launching and integrating MCP servers. A project configuration specifies tools and versions, while the runtime manages server lifecycles and exposes calls through an HTTP API.
Developers can manage Python or JavaScript tool servers from one CLI and use a Python SDK in their agent code. Configuration and secrets are kept separate, with middleware hooks for monitoring and access controls. It is useful for moving an agent’s tool setup between development and deployment while keeping the configuration inspectable.
What it can do
- Declarative server configuration
- Tool-server lifecycle
- HTTP tool access
- Logs and proxying
- Separate secret configuration
- Middleware hooks
Before you choose
- Connected servers have their own permissions and operating requirements.
- Inspect tool access before exposing it to an agent.
