What it does
OpenVids is a free, open-source desktop video editor for people who edit video, including professional editors. Users describe the desired film in chat; agents can plan and make edits to the project timeline, while Ask, Plan and Edit modes let users ask questions, propose a plan or change the timeline. Changes are reviewable and users can take over the edit. A manual editor is also available without connecting an AI model provider.
The editor can organize a video into story chapters, cut footage, add captions, motion graphics and audio, and render and check the result. Its Research agent can find and import outside material while recording its origin and license information. Editing, analysis and rendering run on the user's machine, but agent requests go to the model provider the user connects. OpenVids is at an early stage. It requires macOS 11 or later on Apple Silicon, or Windows 10 or later on x64; Intel Macs are not supported. Chrome and FFmpeg are required for rendering and thumbnails. macOS builds are not notarized, and Windows builds are unsigned.
