- Developers call the API or MCP endpoint from their own app or agent; requests execute in Pipedream's managed runtime.
What it does
Pipedream Connect is an integration layer for developers building AI agents and apps. You send it a user identifier and a target app or raw API request, and it handles the authorization flow, stores and refreshes credentials, and returns responses. Inputs are calls from your code or an MCP client; outputs are tool results, proxied API responses, and events delivered to your webhook from prebuilt triggers.
People use it to give an agent or product access to a user's connected accounts without writing OAuth plumbing. The core pieces are managed auth through Connect Link or a browser SDK, a hosted MCP server exposing 10,000+ prebuilt tools, a proxy that injects per-user credentials into raw HTTP calls, and triggers that stream events from connected apps. Requests run in Pipedream's managed runtime.
Connect suits developers and product teams who need many third-party integrations quickly. Development access is free with full API, SDK, and MCP features; serving external users in production requires the paid Startup plan or a custom Business contract. Usage is metered in credits, and each user connecting an account counts toward external-user limits. Credentials stay on Pipedream's side, but your app remains responsible for its own secrets and security.
What it can do
- Managed OAuth and token storage with automatic refresh across 3,000+ APIs
- Hosted MCP server exposing 10,000+ prebuilt tools to MCP-compatible clients
- Connect proxy that injects per-user credentials into any HTTP request to supported APIs
- Prebuilt actions and triggers, with triggers webhooking events to your app in real time
- Connect Link and browser SDK for end users to authorize their own accounts
Works with
- Slack
- Gmail
- Google Sheets
- Notion
- HubSpot
- Stripe
Example workflows
- Agent sends a Slack message on a user's behalf
- Illustrative example. Inputs: a user ID (e.g. [email protected]), a Slack channel, and message text. Steps: connect the user's Slack account via Connect Link, then have the agent call the slack-send-message tool through the MCP endpoint with the user ID header. Output: the message is posted to the channel using that user's credentials, and the tool result is returned to the agent.
- Proxy a raw API request for a connected user
- Illustrative example. Inputs: an account ID for a connected app, a target API URL, and a request body. Steps: call the Connect proxy with the URL and account ID so Pipedream attaches the user's credentials, then read the response. Output: the upstream API's response, returned without your server handling the user's tokens.
Before you choose
- Usage is credit-based: running actions, MCP tool calls, proxy requests, and trigger events each consume credits, while management calls do not. Pricing beyond the included allowance is per credit and varies with volume.
- Production use requires the Startup plan or a custom Business contract; development access is free but limited to development use.
- Pipedream says it does not store API request payloads or response bodies, but your app still needs secure server-side handling of secrets and user sessions.
