What it does
RubyLLM is a Ruby framework for working with language models, tools and agents through a consistent API. It supports plain Ruby and Rails applications, with chat history, streaming, file attachments, tool calls and structured outputs. Developers can use hosted or local providers and connect compatible model endpoints.
Ruby classes define tools and MCP connections, letting applications control what a model can call. The framework is useful for Ruby teams adding AI features without maintaining a different client integration for every provider. The MIT software is free; model-provider usage and infrastructure are separate, and individual model capabilities still differ.
