What it does
Scite takes a research question or a paper as input and returns answers and search results drawn from scholarly literature, including full-text articles, preprints, books, patents, clinical trials, grants, and datasets. Its AI Assistant returns answers with links back to the specific sentence in the specific paper they came from, so claims can be checked directly.
People use Scite to see how later research has treated a paper, claim, method, journal, author, or funder. Smart Citations classify citing work as supporting, contrasting, or simply mentioning a finding, which helps assess whether evidence is strong, contested, or uncertain. Scite also runs inside Claude, ChatGPT, and other MCP-compatible assistants, plugs into Zotero, and offers a browser extension for citation badges.
Scite suits researchers, students and academic teams reviewing literature or checking the standing of a finding. The Basic subscription includes its Assistant, search and citation reports; Pro adds API access and broader data and credit allowances. A seven-day trial is offered, with separate institutional arrangements. Smart Citations classify how later papers discuss earlier work; they do not independently establish whether a study is correct. Researchers should open the linked passages and assess the methods, relevance and quality of the underlying evidence.
