Shopify Catalog

What it does

Shopify Catalog gives AI agents a way to find products and retrieve their details. An agent sends a natural-language keyword search, or a set of product or variant identifiers, and receives product results with options, availability signals, and checkout links. The Global Catalog searches across all Shopify merchants and returns results clustered by Universal Product ID. The Storefront Catalog searches one merchant's store.

People building or testing shopping agents use it through the UCP CLI or by calling the Catalog MCP endpoints directly. The quickstart walks through searching the catalog, creating a cart at a merchant, converting it to a checkout, and tracking the resulting order. Saved Catalogs let a developer store recurring filters in the Dev Dashboard, and promoted placements let approved developers request paid placements in Global Catalog results.

It suits developers building agentic commerce features who can run Node.js 18 or later and work with an MCP-compatible AI tool. Global Catalog access uses an agent profile without an API key, but rate limits apply and cannot be raised on keyless access. Results cannot be cached, and product images must be rendered in real time and used only with the merchant's listing.

Before you choose

• Catalog results cannot be cached. Images cannot be cached or re-used, must be rendered in real time, and may only accompany the related merchant's product listing.
• Catalog queries are rate limited, and keyless access does not support rate limit increases.
• Inferred fields may be absent or vary in accuracy depending on merchant product data.

Get started

Quickstart installs @shopify/ucp-cli and the Shopify AI Toolkit plugin, then initializes a profile.

1. Install Node.js 18 or higher and the UCP CLI, then the Shopify AI Toolkit plugin for your AI tool.
2. Initialize a local UCP profile with ucp profile init --name agent.
3. Run a Global Catalog search, then create a cart at the chosen merchant, convert it to a checkout, and track the order.

Confirm the applicable plan, usage charges and commercial terms with the provider.
