What it does

Udio generates music from a text description of a style, mood or theme. Users enter a prompt and choose a supported clip length, then receive song variations to listen to and refine. They can adjust the description and generate again, or use the documented extension workflow to develop a track with further sections, an introduction or an ending.

The service suits people exploring song ideas, lyrics and musical directions. Its workflow encourages comparison between variations and iterative changes to the prompt. Songs can be shared through Udio links during the documented transition. Generated output should be reviewed for musical fit and consistency, and any uploaded source material needs to meet the service’s terms.

A Udio account is required, and creation allowances depend on the account and subscription. Standard and Pro have different monthly credit limits, while the Standard trial has separate restrictions. Audio, video and stem downloads are currently disabled under the official partnership transition notice. That restriction makes Udio unsuitable for a workflow that requires exporting the generated files into another production tool.

Example workflows

Create a song from a prompt

Illustrative example. Input: a short description such as 'song about a rainy day, 80s pop'. Steps: type the prompt in the Home text box, select a 2-minute clip length, click Create. Output: two generated songs that can be edited and regenerated.

Extend an existing song

Illustrative example. Input: a song you have already generated. Steps: follow the Extend Your Song guide to add an intro, extend the song, or create an outro. Output: a longer or modified version of the original track.

Before you choose

• Downloads of audio, video, and stems are disabled, so do not plan on exporting files for use elsewhere.
• The subscription trial is limited to 7 days, one per creator, and includes Standard features only; there is no Pro trial.
• Credit limits changed following the UMG partnership, so older guides may describe outdated allowances.
