What it does

Agentforce takes in business context such as Salesforce CRM data, external data from Data 360, natural-language instructions and customer or employee requests, and produces agent actions and responses. Agents answer questions, update records, route work, schedule appointments and escalate to humans when a request falls outside their scope, within configured guardrails.

Builders define subagents, write instructions and assemble a library of actions in a low-code Agent Builder, with Agent Script for more precise control. Actions can draw on Flows, prompts, Apex and JavaScript code, and MuleSoft API connectors. Agentforce also offers prebuilt agents for service, sales development, coaching and commerce, plus Agentforce Voice, observability tools, multi-agent orchestration and MCP server support. It is aimed at agents that sit inside Salesforce data and workflows.

It suits organizations already running Salesforce that want customer-facing or employee-facing agents. Salesforce says every customer can start free with Salesforce Foundations, while broader use is priced by Flex Credits, per-conversation fees or per-user licences. Costs depend on usage and contract model, and Flex Credits and Conversation pricing cannot be combined in one org. Teams outside the Salesforce ecosystem will find less direct value.

What it can do

  • Configure subagents, instructions and actions in a low-code Agent Builder
  • Control agent behavior precisely with Agent Script
  • Run prebuilt agents for service, sales development, sales coaching and ecommerce
  • Add AI voice to channels with Agentforce Voice
  • Monitor and optimize agent performance with Agentforce Observability
  • Coordinate several specialized agents with multi-agent orchestration

Works with

  • Salesforce CRM
  • Data 360
  • MuleSoft API connectors
  • Flows
  • Apex
  • MCP servers from AgentExchange partners

Example workflows

Customer service case resolution
Input: an open customer case and knowledge content. Steps: the agent reads the case, retrieves answers or runs actions such as updating a record, and escalates to a human if needed. Output: a resolved or escalated case with a drafted follow-up.
Build a custom agent
Input: a job description, instructions and existing Flows or APIs. Steps: define a subagent in Agent Builder, add actions, then observe the plan and test responses. Output: a configured agent ready to deploy.
