Amazon Nova
Amazon's family of foundation models plus a free web site for trying them
- Tool type
- Foundation model family
- Made for
- Developers and enterprises
- Runs on
- Web and AWS API
- Models run in Amazon Bedrock; nova.amazon.com is a browser site for experimenting.
What it does
Amazon Nova is a family of foundation models and related services from Amazon. Text models (Nova Micro, Nova 2 Lite and Nova Pro) generate text, analyse documents and write code, and Pro also accepts images and video. Nova 2.5 Sonic handles speech-to-speech conversation across seven languages. Nova Multimodal Embeddings turn text, documents, images, video and audio into vectors for search. Nova Forge trains customised model variants on proprietary data, and Nova Act builds browser-automation agents.
Developers use the models through Amazon Bedrock, a managed service with a single API, for chatbots, document processing, retrieval-augmented generation and voice apps. Nova Act agents are prototyped from natural-language prompts, refined in Python and deployed to AWS. For quick experiments, nova.amazon.com lets you test model behaviour, generate images and try agents without building anything first.
Nova suits developers and enterprise teams building on AWS, and individuals who want to try the models. The web site has been open to U.S. customers with an Amazon account, so check current availability. Production use needs an AWS account with Bedrock access, and Nova Forge and Nova Act are aimed at organisations with development resources. Request a quote or check AWS for rates and usage limits.
What it can do
- Generate and analyse text with Nova Micro, Nova 2 Lite and Nova Pro
- Process images and video with the multimodal Nova Pro model
- Build voice-first conversational apps with Nova 2.5 Sonic across seven languages
- Embed text, documents, images, video and audio for cross-modal search and RAG
- Train customised model variants on proprietary data with Nova Forge
- Build browser-automation agents with Nova Act
Works with
- Amazon Bedrock
- Amazon OpenSearch Service
- Amazon S3 Vectors
Example workflows
- Search mixed-media content
- Illustrative example. Input: a library of documents, images and video. Steps: create embeddings with Nova Multimodal Embeddings, store them in Amazon OpenSearch Service or S3 Vectors, then query with text or a reference image. Output: ranked cross-modal search results for retrieval or RAG.
- Automate a browser form
- Illustrative example. Input: a natural-language description of a web task such as filling a claim form. Steps: prototype the agent with Nova Act, refine it with Python code, and deploy to AWS through Bedrock. Output: an agent that clicks, types and scrolls to complete the workflow.
Before you choose
- The website is for experimentation; production deployment goes through AWS and Amazon Bedrock.
- Nova Forge and Nova Act target organisations with development resources rather than casual users.
- The model lineup changes over time, so check which models are currently offered.
