What it does
Atelier is a VS Code extension for people coordinating coding work with Claude Code. It reads project TODO, plan, and task files and presents work as a kanban board, where cards represent files and columns show status. The extension also provides a rich-text editor for specs, plans, and architecture documents. While editing, its agent can suggest changes grounded in repository implementation and related documents; users can accept, reject, or revise suggestions.
From a board card, users can launch an agent with task context. Atelier supports acceptance criteria and task- and plan-level verification, with failures recorded as new tasks. It can render Mermaid diagrams inline and link diagrams to source code. Use requires VS Code, Cursor, or a compatible IDE, plus Claude Code 2.1.17 or later according to the getting-started guide. The extension is free; use with Claude Code draws on the user's Claude Code subscription. The documentation says other AI coding agents can be configured, but describes Claude Code as the intended pairing.
