AWS DevOps Agent
AWS's autonomous agent for incident investigation, release review, and SRE tasks
- Tool type
- AI operations agent
- Made for
- Operations, SRE, platform engineering, and release teams
- Runs on
- AWS console and connected environments
- You launch the agent from the AWS console; it then works against connected observability tools, repositories, and pipelines.
What it does
AWS DevOps Agent takes in alerts, telemetry, logs, code repositories, CI/CD pipeline data, and deployment information from your environment, which can span AWS, multicloud, and on-premises systems. It produces incident investigations with root cause analysis and mitigation steps, prevention recommendations with agent-ready specs, release readiness reviews of code changes, and change-specific test runs against web and API applications in customer-provisioned environments.
In practice, teams connect it to observability tools such as Amazon CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, and Splunk, along with GitHub, GitLab, and Azure DevOps, and route findings to Slack, ServiceNow, and PagerDuty. Users ask questions in natural language, save custom charts and reports, and build scheduled custom SRE agents, such as a daily database health check. The agent also integrates with extensions through A2A and MCP servers.
This suits operations and SRE teams running production workloads, and release engineers who want code review before merge. You start in the AWS console, and usage is billed per agent-second, with a free trial for new customers and credits for certain AWS Support plans. You pay separately for other AWS services it queries, and release management is still in preview.
What it can do
- Autonomous incident investigation with root cause analysis and mitigation steps, running 24/7 after alerts arrive
- Prevention recommendations across observability, infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and application resilience, with agent-ready specs for coding agents
- Release readiness review of code changes, including dependency mapping and infrastructure permission checks
- Change-specific test generation and execution for web and API applications in customer-provisioned environments (release management preview)
- Natural language querying of resource health, incident patterns, and deployments, with saved charts and reports
- Custom SRE agents that run on a schedule, such as daily reports or 24-hour log anomaly reviews
Works with
- Amazon CloudWatch
- Dynatrace
- Datadog
- Grafana
- New Relic
- Splunk
- GitHub
- GitLab
- Azure DevOps
- ServiceNow
Example workflows
- Overnight pull request review before release
- Input: Multiple pull requests generated overnight across three repositories. Steps: The agent reviews each change against internal standards, maps cross-repository dependencies, and checks infrastructure changes for permission drift against Well Architected practices. Output: Findings reported in the pull request to help the team decide what to ship.
- Incident triage from an alert
- Input: An alert from an observability tool such as CloudWatch, Dynatrace, or Splunk. Steps: The agent correlates telemetry, code, and deployment data across the environment, forms hypotheses, and tests them. Output: A root cause analysis with mitigation steps, routed to Slack, ServiceNow, or PagerDuty.
Before you choose
- Billing accrues per agent-second for active work, and you pay separately for other AWS services the agent queries, such as CloudWatch Logs Insights queries.
- Release management is in preview and is available at no additional cost during the preview period, so terms may change at general availability.
- Built-in integrations cover the listed tools; connecting other systems requires MCP servers or A2A agents that you set up yourself.
