What it does
Bibliome is a Mac document-library app for people managing collections of PDFs and other files, including researchers and professionals working with reference material. Choose folders to scan; it indexes documents where they already live, applies categories learned from the collection, and uses OCR to make scanned pages searchable. Keyword and meaning search locate passages, while Ask Your Library produces answers with citations to the relevant document pages.
The Mac app also supports document filing, duplicate review, PDF markup and redaction, and tools such as page editing and compression. Filing into folders is optional: the default indexing workflow leaves file locations and names unchanged. An optional iPhone and iPad companion can read, mark up, and file into the same library through the user’s iCloud. The built-in model runs on the Mac; the app’s MCP connection lets compatible AI tools search and cite the library in read-only mode.
The Mac app requires macOS 15 or later and Apple silicon. Documents that remain online-only in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or Google Drive may be skipped until downloaded. Bibliome is listed for $29.99 as a one-time purchase; the companion is free. Connecting a separate AI app has separate data-handling implications: passages it reads may be sent to that app’s provider if its model runs in the cloud.
What it can do
- Index documents in selected folders without moving or renaming them by default
- Classify documents into collection-specific categories and optionally file them into folders
- OCR scanned pages and search by keyword or meaning
- Answer plain-language questions with citations to source pages
- Review duplicates and organize document filenames
- Mark up and redact PDFs, including personal-information detection
Works with
- iCloud sync through the user's Apple account
- MCP-compatible apps including Claude, Cursor, and Zed

Before you choose
- Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later; confirm current download size and available disk space.
- Files stored only online in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or Google Drive may be skipped until downloaded locally.
- The default scan leaves files in place; filing or renaming requires optional actions. A connected cloud-model app may send passages it reads to its provider.
