What it does

CVAT is a data annotation workspace for teams preparing images, video, point clouds and audio for machine learning. Annotators create boxes, masks, polygons, keypoints, tracks and transcripts, then review the labels before exporting a training dataset. Built-in AI models can produce first-pass annotations, including prompt-based segmentation with SAM 3 and video tracking with SAM 2; teams can also connect compatible external or custom models.

Projects divide datasets into assigned jobs, with review, ground-truth comparisons and consensus checks helping teams manage quality. CVAT Online provides a managed browser workspace, while enterprise deployment supports private infrastructure. The free cloud plan has small project, storage and AI-call allowances. Paid Solo and Team plans increase capacity; a Team subscription requires at least two seats, and some controls depend on the plan or billing term.
