What it does

Doubao takes typed questions, spoken input and, in the desktop app, shared window content or screenshots. It returns written answers and can reply in a synthesized voice, with several voice styles to choose from. Its focus is general conversation, writing and brainstorming help, plus answers to questions about study, work and daily life.

On the desktop, Doubao can be summoned over other software. People share a Word document, an Excel sheet or a VS Code window and ask questions about it, send screenshots for it to read, or highlight text to search, translate, explain or summarize it. There is also a Doubao-branded browser that summarizes web pages. Users can build custom agents with a chosen speaking style, skills and background, and interrupt the assistant mid-answer by voice.

It suits Chinese-speaking students, office workers and general consumers who want a free-form assistant beside their everyday tools. Sign-up, cost and regional availability are not confirmed. The developer itself warns that it is a chatbot with limited abilities: it cannot supply real-time information, and its output may be inaccurate and should be checked before use.
