What it does
Duck.ai is DuckDuckGo's chat assistant. It accepts typed prompts plus uploaded images and files, and returns responses from third-party AI models. DuckDuckGo states that it removes personal metadata, such as IP addresses, before a prompt reaches the model provider, so requests appear to come from DuckDuckGo rather than individual users.
People use it as a general-purpose chat assistant and choose among models from providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, Azure and Tinfoil. Some models are labeled free and others Plus or Pro. By default chats are not recorded or stored, and provider agreements require deletion after a reply is generated and prohibit training on Duck.ai conversations. Models hosted by Tinfoil run in a Trusted Execution Environment and are labeled zero provider visibility.
It suits people who want AI chat with stronger privacy defaults. Users can optionally share a conversation as feedback or use Sync & Backup, which stores chats in an end-to-end encrypted format. Retention exceptions apply for some providers, such as short-term prompt caching, and uploaded images and files are scanned for child sexual abuse material by a third-party moderation provider.
What it can do
- Chat with multiple third-party AI models, selected by model name
- Upload images and files for model processing, which are scanned for CSAM and not retained unless flagged
- Anonymized requests that strip personal metadata such as IP address before reaching model providers
- Zero provider visibility labeling for models hosted in a Trusted Execution Environment (gpt-oss-120b and Gemma 4 31B)
- Optional Sync & Backup with end-to-end encrypted chat storage
- Feedback sharing that lets users choose to send a specific conversation for review
Before you choose
- Sync & Backup and some optional features store chats in encrypted form, so behavior differs from default no-storage chats.
- Model availability and privacy terms differ by provider, including retention exceptions for Anthropic and Azure backup models.
- Uploaded files are scanned by a third-party moderation provider even though they are not retained unless flagged.
