GPTZero
AI text detector and writing-process replay for schools, publishers, and teams
Linked from gptzero.me · checked 29 Oct
- Tool type
- AI text detector with writing replay
- Made for
- Educators, students, and content teams
- Runs on
- Web app, Chrome extension, and API
- Runs in the browser, inside Google Docs via the Chrome extension, and via an API for developers.
What it does
GPTZero accepts pasted text or uploaded documents and returns an estimate of how much of the writing is likely AI-generated, with highlighted sentences showing where those signals appear. It also checks writing quality and plagiarism. In Google Docs or the GPTZero dashboard, it can record a document's writing history and produce a Writing Report with a playback of edits, a typing-pattern analysis, callouts for large pastes, and an Investigate chat grounded in that edit history.
Teachers, students, publishers, recruiters, and marketers use it to check drafts and review how a document was produced. Its distinguishing feature is the replay: reviewers can watch a session compressed into a short clip and see large pastes marked on a timeline, rather than relying on a score alone. The company says it supports English, German, Portuguese, French, and Spanish most strongly.
Best suited to educators and organizations that want detection alongside process evidence. Access is through the web app, a Chrome extension, and an API, and scans over 10,000 characters require a free account. Team plans require a minimum of two seats and card payment, with invoicing handled through sales. The company advises that results are not a final verdict and that accuracy is lower for short text and non-English writing.

Before you choose
- Detection results are estimates and should not be treated as proof of authorship or used alone for disciplinary decisions.
- Writing Replay requires the supported editor or extension and records only the writing activity it can observe.
