What it does

Grafana Assistant is an AI observability service for understanding telemetry and investigating production systems through natural language. Engineers can ask questions about logs and other signals, generate queries and dashboards, and produce incident summaries. It runs through Grafana Cloud and can also be connected to self-managed Grafana OSS or Enterprise installations.

The assistant combines conversational analysis with investigations and watchers that use operational context to help trace incidents. Teams can access it in Grafana, Slack, Microsoft Teams, through an API, or from MCP-compatible tools and the gcx command line. Grafana Pages and Managed Sandboxes add interactive views and proposed code fixes in public preview, with repository controls and pull-request review.

A Grafana Cloud account is the starting point. Connect the relevant telemetry sources and configure access permissions before investigating production data. The free tier includes limited active AI users and service-account tokens; paid usage adds user and token charges alongside the platform fee. Check the current allowance and preview limitations, and review generated queries, investigations, and proposed code changes before acting on them.
