What it does

Grammarly reads the text you write or paste and returns suggestions on grammar, clarity, structure and tone, plus full-sentence and paragraph rewrites. It can also generate text from prompts. Its newer Docs editor adds task-specific agents: Proofreader, Paraphraser, Humanizer, AI Detector, Plagiarism Checker, Citation Finder, Reader Reactions and an AI Grader that gives rubric-based feedback and an estimated grade.

People use it to polish emails, essays, resumes, reports and proposals, either in the Docs editor at app.grammarly.com or through the classic experience inside other writing tools. Reader Reactions shows how a draft may land with an audience, and team plans add brand tones and a style guide. The company states it does not sell user content or let third-party providers train on it; users can opt out of training use.

It suits students, professionals and teams who write in English. A free account is the starting point; Pro adds sentence rewrites, tone adjustment, AI and plagiarism detection and a larger prompt allowance. Docs is desktop-only in the browser, English-only, and does not yet support real-time collaboration. Some agents are limited to paid plans, and Enterprise is arranged through sales.

  • Rewrite sentences and paragraphs and adjust tone

Input: a draft essay and rubric. Steps: open a new doc in Docs, run Proofreader, use AI Grader for rubric-aligned feedback, then Citation Finder to add sources. Output: a revised draft with citations and an estimated grade to guide edits.
Tune a customer message
Input: a drafted reply or sales pitch. Steps: check tone suggestions, view Reader Reactions, and rewrite weak sentences. Output: a clearer message adjusted for the intended audience.
