What it does

Guardrails AI is a Python framework for checking language-model inputs and outputs. Developers combine validators into guards that detect specific risks, apply failure-handling behavior and help produce structured data. The validator library supports reusable checks, so the same policy can be applied across multiple model calls rather than rewritten in each application.

The framework is distributed under Apache 2.0 and runs in your application environment. Current validators are public PyPI packages: using them no longer requires a Guardrails account or API key. Install the framework and the validators you need, configure how failures should be handled, and test them against realistic examples. The code is free, but local compute and any model services used by a validator have their own costs. Older instructions for hosted remote inference or private-registry authentication may no longer apply.
