What distinguishes the product is that answers are tied to a legal content collection and citation validation rather than general web output. Shepard's Verify and Citation Service checks citations for validation, status, and treatment. Users can move from research to drafting in one workspace, and Protégé can suggest tasks based on documents uploaded to a Vault. Two configurations are offered: Protégé Legal AI, which blends multiple LLMs and grounds responses in LexisNexis sources, and Protégé General AI, which provides access to models from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic.

Lexis+ with Protégé suits law firms, in-house departments and other organizations doing legal work. Subscription scope determines the capabilities and legal content available, and trial access must be arranged with LexisNexis. Vault storage and document handling have limits that should be checked against the intended matter workflow. Research to draft handoff

Illustrative example. Input: a conversational research question on a legal issue. Steps: review the sourced answer, then move the findings into drafting and redlining. Output: a drafted agreement or brief based on the research results.
