What it does

Copilot Chat takes in prompts, uploaded documents or PDFs, and content from Microsoft 365 apps such as email, Teams chats and meetings, and returns written answers, drafts, summaries, spreadsheets, presentations and data visuals. Users can also draft code, compare documents, and ask questions about the webpage open in Microsoft Edge.

People use it inside their work account to rewrite text, summarize long threads or PDFs, recap Teams meetings, and start first drafts of Word documents, PowerPoint decks and Excel spreadsheets. Its distinguishing feature is that it sits inside the Microsoft 365 environment with enterprise data protection, and its content can be reached directly from Microsoft 365 apps or the Microsoft Copilot mobile app.

It suits people and organizations already on an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription who sign in with a work account. Basic web-grounded chat is included at no additional cost, but creating and using agents requires an Azure subscription and metered billing, and some Microsoft 365 app features depend on separate licenses and market availability.
