Recraft

What it does

Recraft takes text prompts and, for custom styles, sets of reference images, and produces raster images, editable vector graphics, design assets, typography-led layouts and mockups. It is built around Recraft's own image models, with the Recraft V4.1 Flash model promoted on its homepage. Its studio also offers other frontier models alongside Recraft's own, and a separate API gives programmatic access.

People use it to make illustrations, photographic-looking pictures and design-ready graphics for branding, marketing and product packaging. Two things set it apart: direct generation of vector files, which the site says many other generators do not offer, and reusable styles created by dropping in your own images without training a model. The studio covers generating and editing images, vectors and mockups. The API adds background removal, inpainting, outpainting, batch jobs and asynchronous processing.

It suits designers, creatives, sellers and teams, plus developers building image features into their own tools. A free plan exists, but its images are owned by Recraft, shown publicly in a community gallery and not licensed for commercial use. Paid plans give private images with full commercial rights. Usage runs on credits that reset monthly, with optional non-expiring top-ups. API usage is billed separately in prepaid API Units.

Example workflows

Build a reusable brand style

Input: a set of your existing brand images. Steps: upload them as a custom style, then prompt new scenes using that style. Output: new images in a consistent look that can be reused across projects.

Create an editable vector asset

Input: a text description of a logo-style or illustration concept. Steps: choose vector output, generate variations, refine in the studio. Output: an editable vector graphic for design use.
