Speech-to-text transcription with speaker labels, translation, and AI analysis.
- Tool type
- AI speech-to-text transcription software
- Made for
- Journalists, researchers, filmmakers, educators, legal and healthcare teams
- Runs on
- Web app, REST API, CLI, and MCP server
- The web app runs in the browser; the API, CLI, and MCP server are for automation. API access requires a paid plan.
What it does
Sonix accepts audio or video files, either uploaded directly or submitted by URL through its API, and returns timestamped, speaker-labeled transcripts. Transcripts can be edited in the browser, translated into 54 or more languages, exported as text, subtitle, or media files, and analyzed with AI features that generate summaries, chapters, and sentiment analysis.
Journalists, researchers, filmmakers, and educators use Sonix to turn recordings into searchable text and captions, then share transcripts in a team workspace. Developers can automate the same work through a REST API, a command-line interface, or an MCP server. The product also supports multi-file analysis across folders of transcripts and aligning an existing transcript to its media.
Sonix is aimed at journalists, researchers, filmmakers, educators, and legal or healthcare teams. API access requires a paid subscription, while new accounts receive 30 free minutes to start. Enterprise plans and HIPAA or BAA arrangements are arranged through the sales team.

Example workflows
- Transcribe an interview recording
- Input: an MP3 interview file uploaded in the web app. Steps: upload the file, select the language, wait for processing, then review speaker labels and timestamps in the browser editor. Output: a timestamped, speaker-labeled transcript exportable as DOCX, PDF, or TXT.
- Batch-generate captions via API
- Input: media files submitted to the REST API with an API key. Steps: POST each file to the media endpoint, poll media status until completed, then request SRT output with caption settings. Output: subtitle files (SRT) for each recording.
Before you choose
- API access is limited to paying subscribers; trial accounts must request a key by email.
- Pricing is per hour of media transcribed; AI analysis hours are measured by the length of recordings, not processing time.
