What it does
Telnyx Text-to-Speech takes text plus a voice ID and returns generated speech over REST, WebSocket streaming, or directly inside a Telnyx call flow. It brings together Telnyx-hosted voices, supported third-party providers such as AWS Polly, Azure Speech, ElevenLabs and xAI Grok, and custom voices created in Voice Design Lab, all behind one API.
Developers typically call the REST endpoint with an API key and a voice ID, or play speech inside Voice API and TeXML flows for IVR and voice agent use. Distinct features include switching providers through configuration rather than separate integrations, pronunciation dictionaries, SSML and emotion markers for supported providers, and voice cloning or dubbing workflows. The REST API can also be used with OpenAI-compatible client patterns.
This suits teams building voice agents, contact center or IVR experiences, and apps that need several voice options behind one interface. Access requires a Telnyx account and API key, and the first step is signing up. Some controls depend on the chosen provider, and model-by-model rates should be confirmed on the Telnyx pricing page before committing to a voice.
