Upscayl

What it does

Upscayl is an AI image upscaler that turns blurry, low-resolution or pixelated photos into clearer, larger images. It offers upscaling up to 16x, a choice of models for different needs, batch upscaling of several images in one go, and double upscaling for better quality, with color and detail preservation aimed at printing.

There are two ways to use it. The desktop app is described as free and open source for Linux, macOS and Windows, and it can run locally on your own machine. Upscayl Cloud is a newer credit-based service that adds cloud file storage, AI face enhancement and detail recovery, and AI image generation, offered through a free trial and subscription or one-time purchase options.

The homepage lists creators, businesses, designers, artists and developers as its audience. The documentation covers a GPU compatibility list, troubleshooting, a CPU-only guide for Windows and Linux, and converting PyTorch models to NCNN. Before you choose

• Local performance depends on your GPU; check the compatibility list in the documentation or use the CPU-only guide.
• On Cloud, if you cancel your plan, subscription credits do not roll over and are lost, and your Upscayl history is lost after 1 month.
• Cloud output size differs by plan: Pro lists upscaling up to 256MP and Business lists up to 512MP images.

2. Check GPU compatibility using the compatibility list in the documentation, or use CPU-only guidance for Windows and Linux.
3. For cloud use, select a plan on the pricing page or start the free trial application after logging in.

The desktop app is free and open source. Upscayl Cloud has a Free Trial with 10 credits included after a trial application, a Pro Plan listed at $24.99 for 300 credits per month, and a custom Business option with pricing by contacting Upscayl. The pricing page shows monthly and annual billing, with annual described as up to 40% off.
